THE LEADERSHIP ACADEMY

This term saw eight year 10 students invited to join with pupils from 6 other Secondary Schools to form this year’s School Sport Partnership Leadership Academy. The pupils were selected for their commitment to Sport and PE, their aptitude to leading and their ability to work well with others. On the day they were given an introduction to the Academy which is now in its 3rd year, they got to experience leading in practical activities, were logged onto to a National online Leadership Scheme called Step into Sport and finally given some practical coaching tips in a fun, productive environment!

They were also joined by Coombeshead’s to Top Leaders who are part of the ADISTAR Leadership Scheme sponsored by Adidas Gordon Stevenson and Louise Hooker who have been in the Academy for a year now. These are 2 of the best leaders in the area and were there to support their new Academy Members.

As part of the Academy the Leaders now need to set up 2 projects in Coombeshead college which will be decided when they next meet in the new year. The leaders will also be used to deliver sports and activities in the Colleges Learning Community Primary schools as well as help at Open evenings etc .

So congratulations to Josh B, Josh F, Aaron T, Josh G, Charlie R, Rebecca T, Jess H and Alysha P on your place in the Leadership Academy.

Year 5/6 Central Venue League Indoor Athletics

Tuesday night was the first of 3 Central Venue League Athletics events to be held in Coombeshead Colleges Sportshall.

Athletes took part in 3 field events and 4 track events throughout the evening. Individual scores and times were added together to give the schools their totals and from this, overall positions were given out on the night.

Schools have the chance to improve their scores at any of the evenings, with the top 2 scores of the Schools Sports Partnership being put through to the County and potentially National Schools Finals later in the year.

There was a great turnout from pupils and parents alike and the atmosphere was incredibly  intense at times. In the end Canada Hill managed 3rd place, Bradley Barton came 2nd, with Kingskerswell resounding winners only having lost 1 event !!!

A big thankyou to Megan Wilson, Sarah Birbeck, Louise Hooker and Beth Finch for officiating at the event and congratulations to all the competitors who took part on the night.

We look forward to seeing you at the next event!
