On Monday 5th July over 100 children took part in South Dartmoor School Sports Partnership’s first Tri-Golf Festival @ Dainton Park Golf Club. In the morning over 30 year 3 and 4 boys and girls came from Canada Hill Primary School to take part in the festival and in the afternoon over 70 year 5 and 6 boys and girls came from Ipplepen Primary School, Highweek Primary School and Bradley Barton Primary School to take part.

The children worked themselves around a circuit of stations practicing different skills and techniques which are crucial to the game of golf, and these stations where led by young leaders from Newton Abbot College who where a huge credit to their school and proved to be fantastic role models for the youngsters. The festival was organised and led by Dainton Park Golf Clubs professional Mike Cayless with the support of Tom Hayne, Competition Manager for the South Dartmoor School Sport Partnership.

Tom Hayne, Competition Manager said “This was a fantastic festival with all of the children really enjoying their experience of golf. For the majority of the children this was the first time they had ever played golf before and we hope this festival encourages them to play again. This festival was only open to the primary schools within the Newton Abbot Learning Community and we are hoping that next year all of the schools across the South Dartmoor School Sport Partnership will have the chance the take part in a Tri-Golf Festival”.

All of the children where given prizes, donated by Dainton Park Golf Club, and information about coaching sessions that the club run. Anyone interested in coaching sessions should contact the club on 01803 815000.
